Frequently Asked Questions

This is a great question as it can be a little daunting for some people the first time they have a massage. First of all we go through a few questions about your general health to ensure that massage is going to be suitable for you and that you are happy with the plan (some medical conditions restrict treatment) You may have already completed the online consultation form.

I will explain the treatment and what I need you to do. Some massages require you to get undressed down to your underwear and others you can keep more clothing on. It really doesn’t matter what you wear to the appointment but you may want to wear something comfy and don’t worry, blankets and towels are there for you to cover up and keep warm.

I will leave the room to allow you privacy to get changed and onto the massage couch. During the treatment I am happy to chat, I take my cue from you. This is your relaxation time and I am equally happy to be quiet so you can drift off if you prefer. I will check in with you throughout the treatment to make sure you are comfortable and that the pressure is right for you. Please don’t be afraid to ask me questions or to adjust the pressure at any point.

After the treatment I will leave you to get dressed, there is no rush, and you are advised to get up slowly as you can feel a little light headed. I will give you aftercare advice to maximise the benefits of your treatment and take payment. We can make another appointment then or you can contact me later,
there is no pressure.

I work from my therapy room at 2 Kickdom Close, Amesbury, Wiltshire, SP4 7XB in a brand new garage conversion. When arriving for your appointment just walk up the drive to the side of the house and you will see the therapy room entrance. Please knock/ring the bell and wait. There is no waiting room so please don’t arrive more than 5 minutes early for your appointment. There is on-street parking available.

(Please do not park in front of the white garage)

Everyone is different but as we are increasing circulation, promoting well being and releasing areas of built up tension, there are a few potential side effects such as
• Feeling much better! This is our aim, to have you feeling better than when you arrived
• Headaches – you may feel a bit fuzzy headed and the best thing is to drink lots of water
• Soreness – if you had knots worked on then those areas may feel tender, this may increase the following day but then should subside and leave you feeling better and more flexible
• Tiredness – massage is very relaxing and can help you to sleep better. Try not to plan anything taxing after a massage, make the most of the treatment and relax
• Emotions – Massage can make some people feel emotional and is a type of stress relief. Just be kind to yourself
• If you are concerned about how you are feeling then please contact me so I can help/advise

To make the most of your treatment its best to avoid:
• Heavy lifting / intense exercise
• Drinking alcohol
• Heavy meals
• Stress (I know it’s a difficult one!)
If you are concerned about anything please contact me

To maximise the benefits of your treatment
• Try to relax as much as possible
• Drink lots and lots of water to flush the system
• Eat light meals
• Massage can bring out emotions so be kind to yourself
• Think about rebooking as regular massage is most beneficial

It depends on what is happening with your skin, if there are open wounds/sores or it is an infectious disease then we wouldn’t be able to carry out the treatment until you recovered. If you are unsure, please just ask me before booking.

It depends on the condition and/or the medication. It may be that we need a doctors note to give permission to go ahead. Please contact me to discuss.

I am currently doing my Oncology (Cancer) Massage training. Please contact me
to discuss if you or a friend/family member is going through active treatment for
cancer. Medical permission is required.

The treatments can be adapted to suit the individual and less pressure is used if the person has thinner skin, tendency to bruise easily, circulation issues etc However, there may be medical reasons not to go ahead so it depends on the individual and the condition but this can be discussed and a doctors note/informed consent may be required.

Yes, I am not insured to carry out treatments for those under 18 (min age 16) unless a parent/guardian is present at all times and the child and parent give written informed consent.

Yes! I am qualified in pregnancy massage and welcome ladies from 16 weeks. If you have been told that your pregnancy is high risk, please contact me to discuss before booking. Permission may be needed from your GP/Midwife if there are any complications with the pregnancy.

(Treatments are not advised during the first trimester)

This is very much up to how you are feeling. I would ask that you seek advice from your midwife and you may want to wait until after your 6 week check. Massage can be a great help for new mums to get a little time to themselves and to ease sore, aching muscles. You may even get a little sleep!

I hope that you will give me as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, but I do understand that sometimes life gets in the way.
By cancelling with less than 24 hours notice, I am unable to offer the appointment to someone else and so reserve the right to charge 50% of the treatment price.
