Body Positivity

Are you feeling self-conscious or a little bit anxious about coming for a massage?

I get this, I have been body conscious for as long as I can remember although less so since I’ve had a baby. Maybe it’s due to the amount of medical staff who saw everything I have when I was in labour that desensitised me finally at the ripe old age of 40…

Anyway back to you, I totally understand that it can be hard for some people to even book a treatment as their anxiety about their body is too much.

Firstly, this way of thinking is absolutely understandable, massage is an intimate treatment and some people feel a bit vulnerable that first time. Let’s face it, new things are often a bit anxiety inducing. It is my job to help you feel safe, secure and relaxed so that you enjoy the experience and want to come back.

Second, I don’t care what you look like. Ooh that’s a bit harsh I hear you say?

Nope, everyone is different and that’s a good thing. Humans come in all shapes and sizes, with a little bit extra here, a bit less there, some of this and none of that. You will get no judgement from me, just kindness and a great massage.

As an aside, the thing I hear most often is women apologising for not shaving their legs! It makes no difference to the treatment and I am focused on giving a fabulous massage not on whether or not you have waxed, shaved or gone au naturel.

I absolutely do care about how you feel and making sure you have the best treatment.

Thirdly, your privacy and safety are top of my list and treatments are carried out in my private therapy room. I leave the room to allow you to undress and get yourself comfy on the couch with blankets covering you. I will only uncover and work on one area at a time, this will also help you to feel nice and cosy.

I won’t see your “bits”, intimate areas will be covered at all times (and you keep your pants on) then when I ask you to roll over I hold the blanket in order to maintain your dignity and get you settled.

Four, I will always chat to you about what the treatment involves before we start, so you can ask any questions, or if there are any areas you don’t want massaged then that’s fine, we can skip it. For example, a few clients don’t like their feet touched so we leave them out and use the time for other areas.

There are so many benefits of massage treatments for your whole body and mind and it would be such a shame to miss out because you aren’t one of the few people who like to whip off their clothes and jump on the couch before I’ve even said “Hello”.

NB – I love these people too, such positivity is great and I wish I was more like them!
